LEGISLATIVE DAY FOR NURSE-MANAGED HEALTH CENTERS

FRIDAY, JUNE 16, 2006 LEGISLATIVE DAY

Dear NNCC Members:

Rising healthcare costs and an ever increasing number of uninsured Americans make the future of the nation's safety-net providers uncertain. National Nursing Centers Consortium and our colleague Ascension Health believe that this is an important time to continue our efforts to educate the nation's legislators about the importance of nurse-managed health centers (NMHCs), critical care centers and other safety net providers, and to ensure that there is a steady stream of funding at the Federal level.  For this reason we have jointly planned a LEGISLATIVE DAY on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. on Friday, June 16, 2006.

We invite you to attend our upcoming Legislative Day & Congressional Health Care Safety Net Policy Briefing on Friday, June 16, 2006 in Washington, DC.  The Lunch will take place at the RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING, ROOM 188, 1St & C Streets, NE, Washington, DC.

We strongly encourage all of you to attend, invite your senators and congressmen and their staff to attend the briefings, and schedule individual meetings with them in between and after the briefings.  Your legislators and their staff are more likely to attend the briefings if they know in advance that you will be present and plan to meet them afterwards. The policy committee and staff are available to meet with you and your legislators and/or their health care staff persons. If you are unable to attend, we still encourage you to call and email your senators and representatives to urge their staff to attend the briefings. If you are unable to attend the briefings in DC, we strongly urge you to set up meetings with your legislators and their staff person in your own district and share with them the briefing materials attached to this email.

During the briefings, we will discuss mechanisms for Congress to:

  • Authorize Nurse-Managed Health Centers (NMHCs), Integrated Health Centers and other safety net providers to receive prospective payment system (PPS)/cost-based reimbursement for their Medicare and Medicaid patients.

Attached, please find an agenda and letters of invitation to your senators and congressmen along with their staff persons to attend the upcoming briefing.  Please insert your name and health center name and send off via mail and email to your legislators with follow-up phone calls.  If you need any assistance locating your Congressperson/s and Senators, please contact us (see contact info below) or visit http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/ and enter your zip code.

We will supply you with briefing packets and go over the briefing documents with you in more detail when you see us in DC.

In general, if you have any questions, feel free to call Tine at (215) 731-7140, (Cell) 215-219-8857 or email her at tine@nncc.us. If you have not already done so, please RSVP to Caroline Ridgway at (215) 731-7142 or cridgway@temple.edu whether you plan on attending.

We hope to see you all in Washington!

Sincerely,

NNCC Policy Committee
